Not Impossible

"I cannot tell you how happy I am to have taken up drawing again. I've been thinking of it, but I always considered the thing impossible and beyond reach." (In a letter written by Vincent Van Gogh to his brother Theo)

Not impossible, I guess.

I had a very hard time drawing an apple, a chair, and my favorite coffee mug, but I'm ridiculously pleased with these two sketches.  As someone who uses Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain as a sleep aid, I actually had fun with this.  Who knew?

Well, Danny Gregory did, actually.

Art & Soul is just around the corner.  I can't wait!  I'm most excited about my drawing class with Carla Sonheim

I love the lipstick stain on the coffee cup!

Pretty darn cool, lady! I can't wait see what you do after your class! Looking so forward to seeing you again!

van gogh and betty edwards are very inspirational for anyone who wants to learn to draw.
keep sketching i look forward to seeing more. sketches are my favourite art,

Jeannine, this has wonderful lines....don't sell yourself short. Everyone who wants to draw can, really. It's a little easier when you look at everything as shapes though. If you're working from a photo - turn it upside down. And yes Betty Edwards' books are a wonderful reference.

Me personally? Even when I was very young, I always looked at things and seen a distinct space or shape around what I was looking at. Of course I came to know that as 'negative space' and it still influences the way I draw.

Have a great time at Art & Soul!

Hi, i'm just passing by (you're linked on the blog of iHanna) and I wanted to tell you how wonderful it is that you began to draw. I can only recommend you not to stop, it really changes one's life and with some practice, you will be able to record some nice days and moments simply by drawing your coffee mug...

Keep it up, and ave fun!

cool drawings! you've got a great distinctive style, love the lipstick on the coffee :)

Nice sketches! I like your swirly design in the mug too. Art&Soul sounds like so much fun. I'm hoping to go to a couple of classes in Portland.
