Illustration Friday (Homage)

This is my homage to Sabrina Ward Harrison.  Not necessarily her artistic style (which would be hard to duplicate) but her spirit of expression and her willingness to put the good, bad, and imperfect bits out there and be vulnerable.   In a year in which I am living authentically I can think of no other artist who inspires me more.

I did try to capture a bit of her signature artistic elements (the loopy lettering, a hand drawn face) but copying isn't a good way of paying homage to an artist.  I hope I've done a not-too-cringe-inducing interpretation.

I've shared this quote before, but it fits so beautifully today:

"I learn and re-learn that silence doesn't protect me. An unexpressed life is very painful to myself and those I love."  (Sabrina Ward Harrison)

I really like this post Jeannine - what a great model for all of us to emulate - putting ourselves out there - shortcomings, vulnerabilities and all.

I think you did wonderfully, but then...you would. :) Enjoy your "down" time, sometimes when that happens to me I find that when it comes back, (the urge to art) I've got something new to say and show and learn. Sending you empowering energy today!

Love your drawing and the quote! I wrote down the quote for myself!

Nice visual treatment, I like the background against the line drawing, cool!!!

Very beautiful homage I think. And that quote is going into my tiny Quote book right now! :-)

Hi Jeannine, just wanted to say hi. Your homage is beautiful and of course I can identify with some of your feelings as only someone who has experienced them herself can. I had a visit with my hubby too recently and saying goodbye was worse, in a way, than the first time when he left last year.

Sending warm, sunshiny thoughts your way,
Laura

Jeannine -- She is so pretty!
